Are Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Alcoholic?
All Bundaberg Brewed Drinks are non-alcoholic — even our iconic Ginger Beer and Root Beer (Sarsaparilla)!
As such, all Bundaberg Brewed Drinks are classified as a soft drink (or soda) and promoted as a delicious alternative to alcoholic beverages.

Is Bundaberg Ginger Beer Alcoholic?
Bundaberg Ginger Beer is non-alcoholic and is not intoxicating. It is classified as a soft drink (or soda in some countries).

Ok you probably get the idea. All of our great brews are categorised as non-alcoholic.
Do Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Contain Any Alcohol?
Our brews may contain minute traces of alcohol residue, and here is why.
All our delicious Bundy drinks are brewed naturally from real ingredients which gives them their unique taste and authentic flavour.
Our manufacturing process uses natural yeast to feed on sugars. This ferments the ‘brew’ and is the base for our beverages – alcohol is a by-product of this process. To prevent the production of alcohol, we carefully control fermentation as part of our brewing process.
Removal of Alcohol Traces
To remove alcohol traces, we heat the brew to 70 degrees celsius, killing yeast, halting fermentation and removing alcohol. Once our brews are bottled, they have an alcohol content of less than 0.2%. In Australia, the legal level of alcohol allowed in a soft drink for it to be labelled as a non-alcoholic beverage is 0.5%. Why is Bundaberg Ginger Beer called a “beer” if it is non-alcoholic?
Ginger beer first appeared around the mid-1700s in England. It was initially made as a fermented alcoholic beverage using ginger, sugar and water.
The delicious, brewed, fermented beverage we all know and love as Bundaberg Ginger Beer is still traditionally brewed to have full flavour but without the alcohol.
Many other Ginger Beers on the market today are simply carbonated drinks often mixed from syrups. We take great pride in the fact our Ginger Beer is brewed using real, locally sourced Australian ginger and cane sugar, fermented with special yeast, and brewed over three-days. It is a traditionally brewed Ginger Beer, simply made without alcohol.
